It was a little bittersweet for Damon Mele (135) of Wasatch, as he beat Creedon Merkley of Uintah.

"It is a little strange since he will be my teammate in a couple of weeks," said Mele, whose family is moving to Vernal. "It was nice to get the win, but at the same time I respect my opponent."

Meanwhile, Fishers sophomore Damon Mele made history, as he became the first ever HCC champion for the Tigers wrestling program. Mele did that in style, as he won the 135-pound match with a second-period pin of ninth-ranked Zionsville junior Dusty Youngs.
“It feels pretty good. Building tradition is our No. 1 thing at Fishers, so it just feels good to help in that part,” the 20th-ranked Mele said. “I was just doing my inside reverse and caught him off guard and got lucky and took him to his back.”
